Welcome

"You must decide how much of your life is open for public consumption."
Someone said that to me a few years ago.

I didn't know then but I know now why this page was created. I wanted to have space where I could process this journey of shedding years of assimilation. I wanted to document my awakening as a black woman veiled by whiteness. Sometimes the process leads me to an ugly cry on IGTV. Sometimes it leads me to productive dialogue through Instatories, then there are times it leads me to silence. . . .

This process is full of racial trauma, church hurt, grief, anger and believe it or not...joy.

I lament the devastating impact structural racism has had on not only black image-bearers but the psyche of man. The weight of this evil is more than any human being can carry and it has no boundaries...NONE.

"To be black and conscious in America is to be in a constant state of rage."
- James Baldwin

This is true.

So to those who are new to this space, those who think you may be following a good black Christian pro-life activist, a palatable black woman, a bridge builder with an endless supply of patience and hand-holding please know...

You will not find that here.

You will find a black, conscious woman stumbling through life and trusting in the God who sees me to catch me. You will find a woman who is pro-liberation, a justice seeker longing to be free. A woman who centers black women and black voices. A person who believes strongly in a consistent life ethic and a person who tries her best to be transparent and vulnerable. You see, I know there are other black women out there that are just like me. Black women figuring out their identity because white supremacy stole it a long time ago. Black women disgusted with the Church but have drawn even closer to Christ...the Christ of the marginalized and oppressed. The black woman decolonizing her mind and clinging to hope because "hopelessness is the enemy of justice" - Brian Stevenson

I am Cessilye, relentlessly pursuing God and the people He loves. Passionately advocating for racial and maternal justice...

And I am and always will be
